THE GO GO HAUNTERS
Press Record's Alicia Bolton catches up with the vocalist India Rose of local psychobilly band The Go Go Haunters

Hey India, so what’s been going on lately?
Yesterday we had a group excursion to the dvd store at the end of our street. Its closing down so they had a GIANT ex rental dvd sale. After turning the store upside down, we found season 1 of THE MUNSTERS! It cost us a tiny $10 and to put that into perspective for readers outside of Australia, $10 gets you a half empty can of worms down here! So that was a frightfully delightful find and we're still kicking in our coffins over it! Now...Season 2?! Where are you hiding?!
Tell us about The Go-Go Haunters?
Our hauntings began only recently. The end of 2009 was when we first decided that it was time to share our macabre wit and fiendly horror fables and verses. For those who haven't heard our music yet, we have a Gore-a-Go-Go thing going on. There's vintage gogo sounds mixed with old surf garage sounds. We're a post punk horror rock RIOT!
What influenced you to get into music?
It's one of those cultural things where we can't even remember a time where music wasn't a massive part of our lives. But what influenced us to get into this kind of music? Well we spend a lot of time at the cinema. We hold themed DVD movie marathons at our crypt. We mailny watch horror films so this must be held responsible for making us this HORROR-BALL.
I have only managed to find your music on myspace, have you released an EP or studio album yet? (Or possibly vinyl?)
Funny you should mention Vinyl, we don't have Vinyl coming out anytime soon, but we will be releasing a very special limited edition BRIGHT PINK and BLACK CASSETTE TAPE very soon!!! It may have songs on it that won't be heard on the EP which we are writing for at the moment. But if a couple of the songs from the tape do make it onto the EP, they'll be different versions to the limited edition tape! (We love cool limited edition stuff!)
Where do you find the inspiration for your music?
We find inspiration in each other. We've all gone completely bonkers, (but lucky for us)... all the best people are!
Any news about the Dead of Winter Festival in July?
Yes, come hang out with us if you're going to be at Brisbane’s finest horror music event the DEAD OF WINTER FESTIVAL. It's going to be ‘fangtastik’! Bands are traveling all across Australia to perform. It’s possibly the highlight on the 2010 calendar.
We also just got news that we will also be playing at GREAZEFEST 2010. This is easily the Kustom Kulture main event of the year too. So we're also very excited to be sharing stages with some amazing Psychobilly and Rockabilly bands!
So you guys are from the Gold Coast, where would we find you hanging out?

So you guys are from the Gold Coast, where would we find you hanging out?
You would find me shopping at Disaster Piece for SHOES!!!!
Three things I would find in your bedroom?
My beloved 55SH Microphone, (I put the war in wardrobe) an endless wardrobe of costumes, props, latex and lingerie for shoots and laptop!
You have quite a collection of tattoos, tell us a story behind one of them?
When I was younger my mum used to call me the jewel or her crown, this inspired my chest piece, it's commonly mistaken for a ruby but is actually a rare pink diamond. It's 1 large diamond and 2 smaller diamonds made into an art nouveau inspired necklace. It's a sentimental piece of jewelery that can never be lost.
What do you do in your spare time?
One of my favourite things to do is have a horror movie night in or have some quite cocktails with my best friend.
An ideal night out for you would include?
I think the best nights are spontaneous, if I'm surrounded by some good friends, great food and an exotic cocktail list I know I'll have a good night.
Do you drink? If so, drink of choice?
My friend and I have a signature drink called 'The Blackheart', it's a lychee, absinthe and black cherry mix.
Can you share a fond memory from your childhood?
I really appreciate my mum giving me the travel bug, we used to go on road trips during school holidays. I still have it to this day, I can wait to get on the road with the band!
Two random facts about yourself?
1. I have a phobia of ice skating, I am afraid someone will skate over my fingers.
2. I have very graphic nightmares.
Five words to describe yourself are?
Confident, Horrorlicious, Kooky, Artistic and Unpredictable.
I need to sleep with the ensuite door closed because Bloody Mary might find me, haha. Absolutley all the doors in my bedroom must be closed before I go to sleep.
You have a very unique modeling style which I’m sure inspires many girls, who do you look up to?
I was very inspired by Bettie Page when I first started modelling over 3 years ago. She was very controversial and ahead of her time.
Also, Maila Nurmi who played Vampira and Dinah Cancer, who is the lead singer of 45 Grave.
Where do find inspiration for your photo shoots?
Most concepts are a collaboration of the photographer and myself. Some ideas that I've come up with are inspired by movies, books and history.
Tell us about your most enjoyable photoshoot and why?
Shooting raw meat with Harmony Nicholas was very memorable. She texted me early that day asking if I had any adversities to raw meat, I of course said no! It was fun using raw meat as a prop. My vegetarian friends reacted with great enthusiasm.

What lies ahead for the Go Go Haunters?
I'm very eager to record the bands first E.P. within the next couple of months, play lots of shows and knock their (the fans) stiletto’s off!
Tours/Gigs planned for The Go Go Haunters in the near future?
Dead of Winter Festival, Greazefest 2010 and planning Sydney and Melbourne shows after that.
Modeling expeditions/shoots we can look out for?
While I'm on the road with The Go-Go Haunters I'll be doing shoots with the band and by myself with various photographers around Australia. A friend and I are planning a model trip to the U.S.A. to work with some of our favourite photographers and designers.
